Program Benefits

Building confidence, connection, and capacity.

RDA Carine Program Benefits

Riding with RDA Carine can offer participants a unique combination of movement, connection, confidence-building and enjoyment. While every rider is different, many participants and families value riding because it provides a fun, motivating and engaging way to move, learn and participate.

01

BALANCE AND POSTURE

As the horse moves, the rider is gently challenged to adjust their position and remain balanced. This can encourage the use of core, trunk and postural muscles in a natural and rhythmic way. The movement of the horse may also help riders develop greater body awareness, rhythm and confidence in their own movement.

02

STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE

Riding involves the active use of muscles throughout the body. Because the activity is enjoyable and engaging, participants may be more motivated to take part for longer periods than they might with more traditional exercise activities.

03

COORDINATION AND MOTOR PLANNING

Riding requires the rider to use coordinated movements to communicate with the horse. Simple actions such as holding the reins, following instructions, adjusting posture, stopping, starting, and changing direction can help participants practise timing, sequencing, coordination and motor planning.

04

FLEXIBILITY AND MOVEMENT

Sitting on a horse, preparing to ride, grooming, tacking up, mounting, dismounting and participating in lesson activities can all involve stretching, reaching, turning and controlled movement. These activities may support general mobility, flexibility and body awareness in a safe and supported environment.

05

SENSORY ENGAGEMENT

Riding provides a rich sensory experience. Participants may respond to the movement and warmth of the horse, the feel of grooming equipment, outdoor sounds, arena activity, and interaction with volunteers, coaches and other riders. This can make riding a valuable activity for participants who benefit from sensory-rich, practical and outdoor learning environments.

06

CONFIDENCE, ENJOYMENT AND PARTICIPATION

One of the greatest benefits of RDA is that participants are not simply “doing therapy” or “exercising.” Our clients are riding a horse, learning new skills and being part of a supportive community. For many riders, this can build confidence, motivation, independence and a sense of achievement.

RDA Carine programs are not a substitute for medical, physiotherapy or allied health advice. Families and participants should seek advice from their treating health professionals about individual goals, suitability and support needs.
